Role and Responsibilities
As a Principal Associate, HR Business Partner, you will be a key advisor to Senior Directors and their leadership teams within the Retail Bank. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping talent strategy, driving culture, and ensuring that the branch organizations are positioned for long-term success.
Strategic Business Advisory
The role involves serving as a primary HR consultant to Senior Director-level leaders. Your focus will be translating business goals into actionable people strategies that drive performance, engagement, and organizational health.
Integrated HR Partnership
You will act as the primary point of integration between the business and the broader HR ecosystem. This includes partnering cross-functionally with Associate Relations, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, and People Strategy & Analytics to deliver holistic solutions that meet multifaceted talent and business needs.
Organizational Design & Workforce Planning
Another key responsibility is to partner with leadership to evaluate and evolve organizational structures. You will guide workforce planning and change management initiatives to ensure our frontline model remains agile and effective.
Leadership Coaching
The role demands acting as a trusted coach to senior leaders, providing insights on leadership style, team dynamics, and talent management. You will help leaders build high-performing teams and a robust internal talent pipeline.
Data-Driven Talent Insights
Leveraging people analytics to identify trends in retention, performance, and engagement is essential. Moving beyond reporting, you will provide “storytelling” insights and recommendations that influence business decisions.
Talent Management Orchestration
You will lead high-impact HR processes including performance cycles, talent reviews, and compensation planning. These processes should be executed with a focus on equity, transparency, and high performance.
Proactive Issue Resolution
The role involves guiding leaders through navigating complex behavioral and performance-related themes. Collaborating with Associate Relations on specific cases, you will focus on identifying the “root cause” themes to drive long-term change at scale.
Project Leadership
Finally, spearheading complex, cross-functional HR projects and pilots that impact the broader Retail Bank enterprise will be part of your responsibilities. This ensures consistent experience and execution across different markets.
Qualifications
The basic qualifications for this role include a Bachelor’s Degree or military experience, at least 3 years of experience in Human Resources or Management Consulting, and at least 3 years of client-facing consulting experience. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner or in a similar talent strategy role, proven experience influencing and coaching Senior Director-level leaders, demonstrated ability to collaborate across specialized HR functions, experience with organizational design, change management, or workforce planning, and strong communication and presentation skills.
Compensation and Application Process
The salary range for this role varies by location. The annual compensation for McLean, VA is between $120,800 and $137,900, and for Richmond, VA, it is between $109,900 and $125,400. This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives.
