This team is responsible for providing oversight and guidance to ensure well-managed data and compliance with enterprise data policies. A critical role within this team is that of the Senior Associate of Risk Management. This position supports the First Line Testing and Controls Governance and Compliance functions within the Data Management and Governance team.
As a Senior Associate of Risk Management, you are expected to become a subject matter expert in the processes and systems related to data management control suite. This role requires you to apply your analytical, risk management and process management skills to support the development and adoption of processes that are in line with the bank’s data management strategy.
Key Tasks of a Senior Associate Risk Specialist
The day-to-day tasks of a Senior Associate Risk Specialist at Capital One include providing comprehensive support for all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line control suite validations. This ensures that controls are accurately documented and operating effectively. This role also involves managing and maintaining supporting documentation for first line testing and controls compliance.
Additionally, a Senior Associate Risk Specialist is expected to execute rigorous compliance monitoring of data management processes and collaborate with business process owners and data risk advisors. The goal is to assess the current data risk and controls environment, and recommend process and control improvements as needed.
Identifying Opportunities and Driving Efficiency
As a Senior Associate Risk Specialist, you are also expected to work with cross-functional stakeholders to identify and evaluate technology and automation opportunities. This is to drive efficiency and ensure coverage of risk and regulatory requirements.
Another critical aspect of this role is identifying and assisting with the remediation of identified gaps in the control environment. This involves supporting governance and reporting efforts, including control change management processes and production of regular performance reports.
Qualifications and Skills for a Senior Associate Risk Specialist
To qualify for the position of a Senior Associate Risk Specialist, you need to possess effective communication and influential skills. You should be able to engage partners across multiple levels of the organization on complex data governance, control execution, and risk topics. Other essential skills include strong analytical and technical skills, attention to detail, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Additional qualifications include a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification, and at least 2 years of experience in process or project management, and control testing, risk management, or data governance.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience, 3+ years of experience in process or project management, risk management or data governance, with a focus on control execution and compliance. Also, 1+ year of data analysis experience and 1+ year of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients on control validation and compliance initiatives would be advantageous.
