At Capital One, the Senior Data Analyst position in the Retail Bank division is instrumental in designing, building, and testing financial experiences. The role involves a variety of functional areas including digital/online banking, branch/cafe experience, bank operations like account maintenance, deposits, ATM, tax reporting, and more. Other areas of responsibility include the contact center, enterprise payments (debit, ACH, check, wires, etc.), marketing and product strategy, and small business banking.

A Senior Data Analyst at Capital One is expected to leverage analytical and technical skills to innovate, build, and maintain well-managed data solutions and capabilities to address business problems. The work can be broadly categorized into three types: Innovation, Business Intelligence, and Data Management.
Innovation
- The role involves using Open Source/Digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous, and various types of data sources and platforms.
- The analyst will also build well-managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service frameworks for data consumers.
- They must demonstrate the ability to explore and quickly grasp new technologies to progress varied initiatives.
Business Intelligence
- The analyst will partner with the business to provide consultancy and translate the business needs to design and develop tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization.
- They will drive analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategies.
Data Management
- The role involves driving an understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management including metadata, lineage, and business definitions.
- The analyst will work collaboratively with appropriate Tech teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governance.
- They will build and execute tools to monitor and report on data quality.
Qualifications for the Role
Capital One looks for candidates with a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline, scripting experience in Python, R, Spark, and SQL, a strong desire and experience with data in various forms, and experience utilizing and developing within Snowflake services. Basic qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field plus at least 2 years of experience performing data analytics, experience with at least one scripting language, and experience utilizing business intelligence visualization tools. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline, coding experience, experience with process management and improvement methodologies, and experience with data governance and data quality management concepts.
