Hometown Financial completes acquisition of CFSB Bancorp

Hometown Financial Group Acquires CFSB Bancorp

In an exciting development in the banking sector, Hometown Financial Group has announced the acquisition of CFSB Bancorp. The latter is the parent company of Colonial Federal Savings Bank, a renowned banking institution in its own right. This development came after an agreement signed in May this year that saw Hometown Financial commit to acquiring CFSB Bancorp and its subsidiary for a value of $14.25 per share in cash. This deal represents a total expenditure of around $44 million.

Implications of the Acquisition

With the completion of this acquisition, all branches of Colonial Federal will now operate under the name of North Shore Bank, a branch of Hometown Financial Group. This is a significant development for both institutions, bringing together their respective strengths and capabilities under a single banner.

The acquisition has seen a substantial increase in the total assets of North Shore Bank, which now stand at $3.3 billion. The bank has 29 branches spread across eastern Massachusetts, boasting 15 on the North Shore and 14 on the South Shore. This includes ten existing Abington Bank branches and four Colonial Federal branches in Quincy, Holbrook, and Weymouth.

The consolidated assets of Hometown Financial Group now stand at a staggering $6.9 billion. With this acquisition, its network has expanded to 56 branches in Massachusetts, northeastern Connecticut, and southern New Hampshire. This growth not only signifies a powerful expansion for Hometown Financial but also solidifies its presence in the region.

Comments on the Acquisition

Matthew Sosik, the Chairman and CEO of Hometown Financial, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition. He welcomed the employees and customers of Colonial Federal into the North Shore Bank and Hometown Financial Group family. As the organization grows its presence in eastern Massachusetts, he anticipates introducing the unique brand of community banking to the customers and employees of Colonial Federal. This would include a range of products, services, and locations designed to help unlock their potential.

North Shore Bank, based in Peabody, Massachusetts, has been operating for over a century. It provides a range of consumer and business banking services. The addition of Colonial Federal’s locations is expected to strengthen Hometown Financial’s presence in eastern Massachusetts.

Looking Forward

Michael Wheeler, the President and CEO of North Shore Bank, expressed his excitement about fulfilling their promise to deliver individualized financial solutions. The bank plans to introduce new digital banking tools and technology for greater convenience. As the organizations come together operationally next spring, they look forward to extending premier commercial and business deposit, lending, and Cash Management products to an even greater number of South Shore business communities.

At the same time, this strategic union will enable the bank to broaden its commitment to giving back to the communities it serves through its charitable giving program, The Giving Tree.
