NAB Leadership Team Reshuffle: A New Era of Transformation

The National Australia Bank (NAB) has unveiled significant changes to its Executive Leadership Team and responsibilities, marking a strategic shift towards technological modernisation and simplification. These changes are designed to position the bank for future growth and success by leveraging the expertise of seasoned leaders in their respective fields.

Shane Conway: A Key Player in NAB’s Transformation Journey

One of the major changes announced by NAB is the promotion of Shane Conway to the position of Group Executive, Transformation. Conway will report directly to the bank’s CEO, Andrew Irvine, starting from 1 December. With a proven track record in the banking sector, Conway’s promotion reinforces NAB’s commitment to a transformative journey towards technological modernisation and simplification.

As Group Executive, Transformation, Conway will be tasked with spearheading the ongoing delivery of NAB’s Technology Modernisation and Simplification agenda. This involves overseeing the bank’s strategic initiatives aimed at integrating advanced technology solutions to improve its services, enhance customer experience, and streamline operations for efficiency.

Sharon Cook’s Retirement: An End of an Era

The bank also announced the retirement of Sharon Cook, the Group Executive, Customer & Corporate Services and Group General Counsel, effective 31 December. Cook has been instrumental in shaping NAB’s customer-centric approach and corporate services, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and dedication.

Les Matheson’s Expanded Role

With Cook’s retirement, Les Matheson, the Group Chief Operating Officer, will assume the responsibility for Customer & Corporate Services from 1 December. This will include areas such as Customer Services, Corporate Affairs, Climate, and Group Governance. Matheson’s expanded role is a testament to his leadership capabilities and vast experience in the banking sector.

A New Role: Executive, Group General Counsel

NAB is also creating a new role, Executive, Group General Counsel, effective from 1 December. The person assuming this position will report to Matheson and will be responsible for managing the bank’s legal and regulatory affairs. Jon Benson, currently the Chief Legal Officer, Corporate & Customer Divisions Legal, has been appointed to this role. Benson’s appointment signals NAB’s commitment to upholding legal and ethical standards in its operations.
