New Management Appointments at ANZ
ANZ’s CEO, Nuno Matos, welcomes three new faces to the bank’s management team, all of whom bring a wealth of expertise from overseas. The appointments include Pedro Rodeia, Christine Palmer, and Donald Patra, who are set to fill key executive roles. These individuals bring diverse and global experience, and their arrival may spark a substantial transformation in ANZ’s top team.
Pedro Rodeia – Group Executive Australia Retail
ANZ’s incoming head of retail Pedro Rodeia
The first appointment is that of Pedro Rodeia, who steps into the role of Group Executive Australia Retail. Rodeia is a native of Portugal, just like Matos, and joins ANZ from McKinsey & Company in Tokyo. He was previously the leader of the firm’s financial institutions practice in Asia, Europe, and globally, indicating a wealth of experience in financial management.
Rodeia will officially join ANZ on November 17, 2025, and will be based in Melbourne. Until his arrival, Bruce Rush will continue in his position as Acting Group Executive Australia Retail.
Christine Palmer – Group Chief Risk Officer
The second appointment is that of Christine Palmer, who joins ANZ as the Group Chief Risk Officer, replacing Kevin Corbally. Palmer hails from Santander UK, where she has been serving as Chief Risk Officer since 2020. Her professional portfolio also boasts senior risk and leadership roles at Aldermore Group, ING, and Ernst & Young, as well as 14 years at the Royal Bank of Scotland/NatWest, where she held senior roles in enterprise risk management, credit, and non-financial risk.
Palmer will officially join ANZ on December 1, 2025, and she will also be based in Melbourne.
Donald Patra – Group Chief Information Officer
The third appointment is Donald Patra, who has been chosen to become ANZ’s Group Chief Information Officer. This role is seen as one of the most challenging in the banking industry, especially with the need to transfer Suncorp Bank customers to ANZ platforms in the near future and the ongoing challenges with the ANZ Plus platform.
Patra joins ANZ from HSBC, where he most recently served as the Chief Information Officer for the United Kingdom and Europe. He has had a distinguished career of more than two decades with HSBC, serving as CIO in Asia, the Americas, and Europe. He has been recognized for spearheading key transformation programs, driving global-scale digital transformation, modernizing core banking platforms, advancing data and AI capabilities, and strengthening operational resilience across highly regulated markets, according to ANZ.
Patra is set to join ANZ on November 24, 2025, and will be based in Melbourne. Michael Bullock will continue as Acting Group Executive, Technology & Group Services until Patra commences in his role.
These appointments signal a significant shift in ANZ’s management team, with the new appointees bringing a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives from their diverse backgrounds. The new team is expected to drive ANZ’s strategic plans and manage the challenges facing the bank with a fresh, innovative approach.
