Synechron and Cognition launch AI partnership to support banks

Synechron and Cognition Partner to Accelerate Financial Software Modernisation with AI

In a significant step towards modernising financial institutions’ software systems, Synechron and Cognition have formed a partnership to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The collaboration aims to incorporate Devin, an autonomous AI software engineer, into Synechron’s project delivery framework, as shown by an image credit BalkansCat/ Shutterstock.com.

Integration of Human Engineers and AI Systems

The integration leverages Synechron’s extensive experience in supporting major banking clients. The objective is to combine the efforts of human engineers and AI systems capable of processing and understanding complex enterprise codebases. Consequently, financial institutions can upgrade their legacy systems more efficiently while observing the necessary security and compliance standards.

Benefits of Incorporating Devin

Joint research conducted by Synechron and Cognition revealed that the integration of Devin led to substantial improvements in the modernisation process. The AI engineer significantly reduced upgrade times, streamlined engineering workflows, and improved software testing. As part of Synechron’s service offerings, clients will have the opportunity to access Devin and include AI-driven engineering in their technology renewal projects.

Engineers trained and certified by Cognition will support the deployment of these solutions, ensuring compliance with financial industry regulations. Synechron’s president, Mihir Shah, commented on the partnership, stating that it provides financial institutions with a more reliable way to modernise their technology.

AI Integration into Existing Tools

The partnership also includes incorporating AI capabilities into Synechron’s existing tools. This incorporation aims to update legacy applications, restructure large codebases, and accelerate project delivery. As part of the strategic collaboration, enterprise pilots are planned to apply these technologies in areas such as programming language upgrades, mainframe modernisation, and data migration tasks.

Enhanced AI Agent’s Capabilities

The two firms will continue their joint research to further enhance the AI agent’s capabilities. The focus will be on workflow automation and integration with cloud-based development pipelines. The partnership poses an excellent opportunity for banks and insurers seeking faster technology upgrades without compromising regulatory or operational requirements.

Cognition’s global VP of partnerships, Gardner Johnson, highlighted the need for a new operating model for engineering. He believes that the integration of AI agents with deep domain expertise can help clients reimagine what’s possible across their most critical platforms.
