Role of Sr. Teller
The role of a Sr. Teller at Northern Trust is an essential one. This office-based position requires the individual to process and approve transactions for clients within specified limits. The Sr. Teller also assists other tellers in processing complex or problem transactions. Additionally, the Sr. Teller has the authority to approve transactions referred by other tellers within defined limits.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Sr. Teller also monitors, researches, inputs, and settles assigned accounts. It’s a role that requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. The Sr. Teller is also tasked with cross-selling the bank’s products and services, allowing them to contribute directly to the bank’s growth.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of a Sr. Teller at Northern Trust include accepting, approving, and processing transactions for clients within set limits, assisting other tellers with complex transactions, approving referred transactions, receiving deposits, cashing checks, processing savings deposits or withdrawals, and issuing money orders, cashier checks, and travelers’ cheques.
Additionally, the Sr. Teller balances, inputs, and settles daily sales of travelers’ cheques, inputs daily transmission of savings bond purchases into the fedline, prepares large currency transaction reports, and balances the cash transactions for the unit, including the cash drawer. They are also responsible for conducting teller audits, identifying fraudulent transactions, assisting clients with non-standard inquiries, and cross-selling the bank’s products and services.
Requirements for the Role
The successful candidate for the Sr. Teller role should have knowledge of teller operations usually acquired through high school level business courses and prior teller experience, math skills for balancing the cash drawer, personal computer skills, and 10 key adding machine skills for transaction entry and recording. A minimum of 2-3 years of teller experience is also required.
