Role of the Sr. Director, 1st Line Credit Risk in this Transformation

Integral to this transformation is the role of the Sr. Director, Credit Risk Management. This individual will own the 1st line credit risk management function for Credit Cards and Small Business Lending. In charge of leading and building a high-performing credit risk organization, the role involves managing the end-to-end credit risk of Credit Card and Small Business lending portfolios. It involves setting the vision for credit risk, establishing robust credit policies, and building modern risk capabilities. Responsibilities and Impact

The Sr. Director will be the first line of defense in committee meetings, driving a culture of credit risk awareness across the organization. They will work with the 2nd line Risk Management to establish a risk appetite framework and develop credit strategies within the risk appetite of the bank. The role also involves working with the product, platform, and marketing team to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns that meet the bank’s hurdle rate. The Sr. Director will also oversee the 1st line Credit Risk management team, ensuring the implementation of credit risk management strategies across the customer lifecycle.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

The Sr. Director is expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, or Economics is required, while a Master’s degree in the same fields is preferred. Additionally, at least 12 years of Credit Risk Management experience within the Financial Industry, including dealing with U.S. regulatory agencies, is required. The candidate should also have 5+ years of experience managing teams of credit analysts, underwriters, and data scientists in Credit cards, Small Business lending, or consumer unsecured personal loan products. Expertise in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, credit modeling for underwriting, and portfolio management decisions are also essential. (source)
