Responsibilities of a Senior Software Engineer, Android (Bank Tech)
Core Responsibilities
As an Android Software Engineer at Capital One, you will be responsible for developing Android client code solutions that align with the company’s Product Strategy and adhere to established engineering best practices, design guidelines, and principles. You’ll be partnering with Software Engineers, UX/UI, Quality Engineers, and Product Owners/Analysts to deliver high-performing, quality customer experiences that are engaging, powerful, and simple.
Active participation in all team agile ceremonies is expected, with a focus on delivering all team commitments on time and of the highest quality. Being an advocate of the mobile platform through both internal and external developer communities is part of the role. A constant learner, you should be updated with all technologies related to mobile development, including Kotlin, Swift, 3rd party libraries, and more.
Leadership and Collaboration
As a senior member of the team, you will also be expected to influence and contribute to group discussions, incorporate feedback from the broader team, and mentor junior to mid-level members. Engaging with developers outside of the local sprint team across various disciplines, such as Android, iOS, APIs, Web, etc., is also part of the role.
As a leader, you will also own and lead the delivery of major components and platform needs in partnership with other Senior Engineers and Architects. Sharing best practices and improving processes within and across sprint teams is a standard expectation. Early identification of technical obstacles and working closely with the team to find creative solutions is also part of the role. You will also be responsible for reviewing pull requests and ensuring adherence to Kotlin and other language idioms.
Qualifications for the Role
Basic Qualifications
Capital One requires a Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of professional software engineering experience. Candidates must also have a minimum of two years’ experience building Android applications and using Kotlin.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include more than three years of experience building Android applications and using Kotlin, at least one year of experience in open source frameworks, and familiarity with Agile practices.
