Essential Job Functions of a Retail Banking Representative
Customer Service Duties
The Retail Banking Representative will be responsible for performing all aspects of opening and maintaining a variety of accounts in accordance with Bank policy and procedure. As part of their customer service duties, they will also proactively present and cross-sell Bank products, resolve customer complaints, and maintain correspondence with customers and the back office to ensure resolution. Additionally, the role includes participating in off-site sales calls, branch networking, and community activities.
Responsibilities behind the Teller Line
At the teller line, the representative will perform all necessary duties such as stop payment orders, process deposits/withdrawals, cash checks, and assist other RBR’s in balancing daily transactions. They will also research and investigate customer claims and perform RBR functions as assigned.
General Responsibilities
General responsibilities include assisting Officers in performing various Branch functions and reports, rendering priority services to customers in need of special handling, and performing various related clerical duties as directed. Knowledge and use of the Bank’s Redi system to keep current with updates to policy and procedures are also part of the role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements for a Retail Banking Representative
Applicants for the position should hold a High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years of Teller experience is required, or successful completion of the teller training course in lieu of Teller experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with prospective and existing customers are also critical.
Flexibility to work and/or transfer throughout the network, on an as-needed basis, is needed. Detailed knowledge of banking procedures, regulations, and all Branch-related functions and terminal systems is also required.
Compensation and Work Model
The starting base salary for this role is between $25 per hour – $27 per hour, dependent on factors such as training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Amalgamated Bank has adopted a Hybrid Work Model, effective from February 18, 2025, requiring office-based positions to work a schedule consisting of three days or more, on-site per week, with Friday designated as a remote-working day.
