Principal Risk Specialist: A Vital Role in Third-Party Management at Capital One

Capital One, a well-established financial institution, is actively seeking a strategic, pragmatic, and practical third-party risk specialist to join their Banking & Premium Products Third Party Management team. This unique position requires an individual with a seasoned understanding of financial services third party management with a focus on complex inventories, including affiliate relationships.

As a Principal Risk Specialist, you are expected to drive initiatives, programs, and projects that implement strategic enhancements in Third-Party Management. The role involves working with innovative businesses, including merchants, as well as traditional third-party relationships.

Key Responsibilities

A Principal Risk Specialist at Capital One is expected to fulfill several key responsibilities. You will need to establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders and proactively identify third-party risks. Your role will involve partnering with these stakeholders to reduce or eliminate the risk.

Furthermore, you will be expected to coordinate and execute proactive consulting to both internal and external teams as it pertains to third-party risk, including controls and mitigation. Your role will also involve supporting business and tech-related projects and initiatives and influencing customers to make sound business decisions.

As a Principal Risk Specialist, you will be required to provide ad hoc support on special departmental goals, objectives, and initiatives. You are expected to work with the line of business leadership to anticipate their objectives and needs to better serve the line of business.

About You: Necessary Skills and Experience

As a potential applicant for the role, you should ideally be a financial services third-party risk professional with a background in managing complex third-party inventory risk. You should have a desire to work in a fast-paced, forward-leaning, and modern computing environment. This role requires a strong desire to continually learn about new technologies.

Other essential skills include strong conceptual thinking and communication skills, the ability to work well under minimal supervision, and extensive market affiliate third-party experience. You should demonstrate strong ability to analyze information and data, and sound judgment when analyzing third-party risk. Additionally, you must be able to effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical people.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications for this role include at least two years of experience working in third-party risk management, including affiliate relationships, and at least two years of experience performing risk assessments at a financial institution. Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of experience with PCI DSS, NIST, ISO, Physical Security, or IT Operations Management Certifications, 3+ years of experience at a financial institution, and 3+ years of experience in Third Party Security Risk with Cyber or Data.
