The Role of a Data Analyst at Capital One
As a Data Analyst at Capital One, you’ll have the opportunity to use your analytical and technical skills to build innovative, well-managed data solutions to tackle business challenges. The job involves three key areas of work – Innovation, Business Intelligence, and Data Management.
Innovation
- Utilizing Open Source/Digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous, and diverse data sources and platforms.
- Building well-managed data solutions and tools to enable self-service frameworks for data consumers.
- Quickly grasping new technologies to further various initiatives.
Business Intelligence
- Partnering with the business to provide consultancy and translate business needs into tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization.
- Driving analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategies.
Data Management
- Ensuring understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management, including metadata, lineage, and business definitions.
- Working collaboratively with Tech teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governance.
- Building and executing tools to monitor and report on data quality.
Qualifications for the Principal Data Analyst Role
The ideal candidate for the Principal Data Analyst role at Capital One should have a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline. They should have scripting experience in Python, R, Spark, and SQL, along with a strong desire and experience with data in various forms. Experience utilizing and developing within AWS services is also desirable.
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field, along with at least 3 years of experience performing data analytics, working with at least one scripting language, utilizing a business intelligence visualization tool, and querying, analyzing, and working with data languages and platforms. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline, at least 4 years of coding experience in Python, R, Spark, or SQL, and experience working within process management and improvement methodologies and delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts within the financial services industry.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for the Principal Data Analyst role at Capital One varies based on location, with annual salaries ranging from $115,900 – $145,500. The role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long term incentives.
