Role and Responsibilities of a Commercial Banker’s Support
The role as a support for Commercial Bankers involves handling various job activities. These include acting as a liaison between lending sales personnel, the commercial operation, and service support groups. Additionally, the role involves performing customer service roles related to administration and follow-up support for commercial loan and deposit relationships. This role is a pivotal point of contact among several departments, ensuring seamless coordination for commercial banking operations.
Qualifications Required for the Role
For this role, having a solid understanding of all aspects of commercial lending, documentation, and servicing is preferable. The ability to recognize what is missing or needed in loan applications or documents is crucial. Prior experience in formal credit training or strong credit analysis skills is an added advantage.
The individual should have the ability to read, analyze and interpret Commercial Construction Loan documents, including notes, mortgages and construction loan Agreements. Furthermore, the candidate should possess experience in analyzing financial statements from commercial clients to determine what is needed.
Reviewing covenants to understand if the loan will be able to meet those covenants is another skill that the candidate must possess. Additionally, they should have experience with commercial draw agreements and make independent decisions to determine if it is the correct draw amount. If not, they must be able to call the client and explain the reasoning. They must have experience working independently with the credit and underwriting personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This role involves practicing the standards of the Bank’s Mission, Vision, and Pledge. The individual needs to understand the various types of commercial loan products and services offered by the Bank. They should maintain a working knowledge of the Bank’s loan processing system and credit approval process.
Coordination of underwriting and processing of new loan requests and modifications with Credit Risk Management is another responsibility. The candidate would also engage, coordinate and review third-party reports like appraisal, environmental, inspection, among others. They would need to attend joint meetings with Commercial Bankers, as applicable.
Inputting information into the lending system in conjunction with and on behalf of the Commercial Banker is another crucial task. They would also need to facilitate deal submissions of all credit requests into commercial processing software, utilizing checklists to confirm all information is collected, and due diligence is complete.
Assisting in the commercial loan closing process, including communicating with Commercial Administration Support Analyst, and coordinating activities of outside service providers including attorneys, accountants, insurance providers, and government agencies is also required. They would also help with collecting documents and maintaining updated financial and other information for new loans and modifications to provide excellent customer service.
Other Requirements
Banking being a highly regulated industry, the candidate will be expected to acquire and maintain a proficiency in the Bank’s policies and procedures. They should adhere to all laws, rules, and regulations applicable to their conduct and the work they will be performing. They will also be expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.
The candidate should have good time management skills and the ability to coordinate and/or manage multiple tasks in various stages. They should be willing to provide a level of service which will clearly differentiate us from our competitors. A professional demeanor in appearance, interpersonal relations, work ethic and attitude is required.
The candidate should possess clear, concise, effective written and oral communication skills to effectively express thoughts, ideas, and concepts to bank employees and bank customers. The ability to work with others in a team environment and under occasional time constraints is a necessity. They must be willing to learn, understand and promote Bank products and services. They need to maintain confidentiality, utilize Microsoft Office software, and learn commercial banking software. A High School Diploma or GED is required, while a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration is preferred. A minimum of three years of relevant banking experience is preferred. Experience with commercial lending systems and loan documentation is preferred.
