As a Portfolio Banker within the Emerging Middle Market Banking team, your primary function is to maintain and enhance existing client relationships. This role is based on a blend of independent work and team collaboration, with an emphasis on introducing comprehensive solutions to clients. The ultimate goal of a Portfolio Banker is to grow and retain profitable relationships within the Commercial Bank.

Deep Knowledge Base and Methodical Approach

As a Portfolio Banker, you are expected to possess an in-depth understanding of our solutions. These include, but are not limited to, Credit, Treasury Services, International Banking, Syndicated Finance, Commercial Card, and J.P. Morgan Merchant Services. Successful Bankers often have a systematic approach to market activity and prospecting. Since our delivery is local, we highly value candidates who have deep connections and a good understanding of the local market.

Key Responsibilities of a Portfolio Banker

As a Portfolio Banker, you will be expected to:

  • Manage, retain, and deepen a portfolio of Commercial Banking business clients with annual revenue between $20 million – $100 million.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and a customer-centric mindset.
  • Utilize knowledge of business, finance, payment solutions, banking, credit, and risk management to identify, recommend, and promote solutions that best serve the client and ensure the profitability of the portfolio.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation or strategic partnerships.
  • Boost efficiency within the existing technical infrastructure through automation while embracing the innovative opportunities offered by new technologies.
  • Adhere to sound risk management protocols, control policies, and regulatory requirements to protect the firm.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A minimum of five years of direct lending or credit support experience with a focus on business relationships.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Commercial Banking products and services.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal partners and resources.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage, prioritize, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and strong partnerships with senior business and control partners.
  • A strategic and inquisitive mindset, strong knowledge of the bank and its offerings, and ability to garner support from partners to manage a large client book.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and formal credit training, sales management and business development skills, strong creative solution and problem-solving abilities, flexibility to adapt to changing business priorities, and a proactive, self-directed, and creative approach.
