Square: A Decade of Commerce Evolution
Since opening our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved drastically. The advent of Square has been instrumental in this transformation. Square was conceived to enable anyone to accept payments, ensuring no sale was missed due to payment constraints. Over time, we observed how sellers faced challenges with outdated products and tools that failed to work in harmony. This observation sparked the beginning of a new era for Square.
Expanding into Software and Omnichannel Solutions
We expanded into the software domain and embarked on creating integrated, omnichannel solutions. Our aim was to equip sellers with the tools necessary to sell online, manage inventory, offer “buy now, pay later” functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. A significant element of our strategy was the integration of financial services tools right at the point of sale. This integration enabled merchants to manage their business loans and cash flow from a single platform.
Our acquisition of Afterpay aligns with our objective to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth. It allows sellers to attract the next generation of shoppers, boost order sizes, and compete on a larger scale.
Partnering with Sellers of All Sizes
Today, we have become an invaluable partner to sellers of all sizes. We cater to large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began their journey with Square and have grown over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. We see a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we’re helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role of the Block Financial Platform
The Block Financial Platform empowers teams across the Block ecosystem to build and scale innovative financial products rapidly and reliably. It seeks to unlock access to the global economy by creating a composable, resilient, and performant financial platform.
The Banking Services domain within the Block Financial Platform is responsible for our connections and rails into traditional banking infrastructures in 8 countries. It manages payment rails such as ACH, wires, check deposits, and instant transfer methods, as well as core bank account linkage, verification, and authorization functions. It serves as a single, centralized banking stack that serves multiple products at Block, providing efficiency, resilience, and speed.
Seeking a Platform Product Manager
We are currently in search of a Platform Product Manager to join the Banking Services team within the Block Financial Platform. The role will involve owning a portfolio of platform capabilities that power bank account lifecycles and money movement across products. The focus will be on reliability, regulatory compliance, end-user experience, and new product enablement for Cash App and Square.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for candidates with at least 5 years of product management experience or equivalent, including experience in shipping complex, backend, or platform products at scale. Experience in at least one of payments, banking, financial platforms, or highly regulated infrastructure is a must, with a desire to go deep on bank transfers and global money movement.
A system-thinking mindset, technical fluency, excellent communication skills, and an analytical and metrics-driven approach to decision-making are all crucial for this role. If you’re committed to delivering positive outcomes for users and are passionate about shaping the future of Cash App, Square, and Afterpay, we’d love to hear from you.
