Overview of the Retail Banking Division Role

Within the bustling environment of retail banking, the role of a personal banking representative presents an exciting opportunity. This position falls within the branch network department and reports directly to the branch manager. As a non-exempt employee in a Grade 6 position, the compensation range is from $19.00 to $31.86 per hour, depending on factors such as skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location. The primary location for this role is on Aquidneck Island, with a secondary location in Newport, RI.

Purpose and Objective of the Role

The personal banking representative is a pivotal figure in the financial center, responsible for building and maintaining strong client relationships. They provide exceptional experiences, educating clients on a wide array of products and services. This role is not just about servicing clients, but also about community outreach, prospecting, and ensuring compliance and proper documentation for all new accounts, loan requests, and account maintenance.

Key Accountabilities

As a personal banking representative, your main duties will encompass a broad range of responsibilities.

Client Relationship Building and Management

Accounting for 60% of the role, your primary task will be advising clients on product selection, establishing new accounts, and capitalizing on relationship-building opportunities. Your tasks will also include originating and closing consumer loans, handling safe deposit rentals, and ensuring proper documentation for all account maintenance. You will also need to be proficient in digital banking and remain updated on all banking regulations and internal policies.

Routine Client Service Line Duties

Comprising 20% of the role, you may also be required to perform routine client service line duties such as check encashment, deposit and payment processing, and loan document processing. Providing backup to the Financial Center Manager or Assistant Banking Center Manager, facilitating and participating in branch team meetings are also part of this role.

Participation in Internal Sales and Referral Programs

Another 20% of the role involves participating in all internal sales and referral programs to achieve branch goals and support all bank-wide initiatives. You will also perform outreach to clients for initiatives such as the bank’s CAREs program and other community relations opportunities.

Compliance and Ethical Standards

As a personal banking representative, it is crucial that you ensure compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies. Upholding ethical standards is paramount to reduce risk and maintain the integrity of your role.

Education, Experience, and Skills

The minimum educational requirement for this role is a high school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience in a goal-oriented sales or customer service environment is preferred, as is cash handling experience. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills are crucial. You should also be proficient in computer skills, including digital banking platforms.
