General Function of Personal Banker I
Selected candidates for the role of Personal Banker I undergo a comprehensive 9-week onboarding and education program, which includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service. The program concludes with a certification exam to test candidates’ understanding of the Retail Personal Banker job family.
The Personal Banker I is a position centered around using the consultative sales process to identify and meet customers’ financial needs. The role involves acquiring new households, deepening existing customer relationships, and processing teller transactions. The position also requires active participation in lobby leadership (Financial Centers) or aisle time (Bank Marts), and tele-consulting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A Personal Banker I has a wide range of responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
- Using consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build a thorough customer profile
- Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of Retail consumer and small business products and services
- Performing activities aimed at cross-selling to existing customer base and engaging in outside sales activities
- Establishing close relationships with assigned Business Partners and referring customers for timely and holistic financial solutions
- Meeting/exceeding customer experience, and individual/team production goals
- Promoting customer satisfaction with a friendly and professional demeanor
Supervisory Responsibilities and Working Conditions
The position does not involve any supervisory responsibilities. The normal working conditions are in an office environment with extended viewing of computer screens. The role may involve travel within the affiliate for training and occasional travel outside for classroom training sessions.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
The position requires certain qualifications and skills. A college degree or work experience providing transferrable skills, or a combination of both, is preferred. Experience in the financial industry is valuable. Other desired skills include an understanding of advanced math functions for credit and financial information analysis, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to develop a working knowledge of Retail policies and procedures. Bilingualism, particularly in Spanish, is highly beneficial for communicating with a diverse customer base.
