Moreover, a Personal Banker opens personal accounts, handles Certificates of Deposit (CD’s), and cross-sells bank services. They answer client inquiries and resolve less complex issues. They also play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining client relationships, including addressing each client by name. Their primary goal is to build client loyalty and deliver exceptional customer service consistently.

Additional Responsibilities

In addition to these primary responsibilities, a Personal Banker participates in retail sales programs to help meet personal and banking center goals. They actively participate in team meetings and community projects and attend educational programs related to their position. In the absence of the Manager, they may be asked to assist with audits, reporting, and scheduling. They also provide transaction overrides and other assistance to less experienced Client Service Representatives (CSR’s) on transaction processing and balancing as necessary.

Non-Essential Functions

Apart from their primary duties, a Personal Banker is expected to demonstrate appropriate levels of interpersonal skills for clients and staff members. They should be flexible and open to performing other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

The position of a Personal Banker requires a certain level of expertise and skills. A minimum of four years of retail banking experience is preferred. The candidate must be customer service and sales-oriented. Attention to detail, good written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, the ability to cross-sell bank products and services, and a high level of motivation are also required. The ideal candidate should be able to work in a team atmosphere and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. They should also have the ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others as well as company documents and records.

Education and Physical Demands

While one to three years of college is preferred, the physical demands of the job are equally important. The employee must be able to sit, stand and walk; use hands and fingers to operate the keyboard and other office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee may be required to stoop or kneel. The employee may also occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
