The Banks and Market Structure team, a part of the Global Financial Institutions Group (GFIG) at BMO, is offering an attractive opportunity for a Managing Director & Head of Corporate Banking. This role offers extensive international exposure as the team is spread across major financial hubs of the world: New York, Toronto, London, and Hong Kong. The client base of this team is diverse, including Canadian investment dealers, financial market infrastructure providers, and domestic and international banks. [source]
Role and Responsibilities
The hired candidate will take a lead role in maintaining strong client relationships, managing first-line risk, and coaching and developing the team. The role requires collaboration with other product areas to present all relevant solutions and products to the Banks and Market Structure client base. The individual will be expected to elevate the BMO and BMO Capital Market brand and foster a culture aligned with BMO’s purpose, values, and strategy.
The role entails generating significant bank revenue over a sustained period and recognizing opportunities to cross-sell products and solutions across the bank. The successful candidate will oversee deal origination, maintain strong client relationships, and provide impactful strategic advice. Furthermore, the individual will be responsible for managing various risks associated with the portfolio of facilities deployed to support the Banks and Market Structure sector.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
For this role, the ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in a Corporate & Investment Banking or Capital Markets environment. The candidate is expected to possess excellent knowledge of the Banks and Markets Structure industry and have a proven track record of structuring, leading and underwriting a wide variety of corporate credit facilities. Managerial, change management, and leadership experience, preferably with a large, cross-border located team, is also desired. Additionally, an undergraduate degree with focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting is preferred, while an MBA or CFA or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, and legal fields would be advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary for this role is $300,000 USD, with total compensation being market competitive. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
