The Role of a Manager of Retail Banking
As a Manager of Retail Banking at First Citizens Bank, you will shoulder the responsibility of managing sales for at least six branches and possibly Premier Relationship Bankers in selected markets. Your role involves the implementation and management of staffing and sales activity plans to meet the bank’s financial growth objectives.
The position requires driving accountability for the acquisition, expansion, and retention of consumer and small business banking relationships. You will be tasked with coaching associates to enhance their sales performance, potentially engaging in outbound calling activities to generate new business opportunities.
Furthermore, this position oversees the productive collaboration between sales associates, branch partners, and back-office support groups.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Team Management
As a manager, you will be tasked with managing the performance and personnel functions for a team, ensuring operational soundness while executing a plan to deliver results that create value for the customer and meet the bank’s financial expectations. You will drive accountability to role expectations, responsibilities, and authorities, providing one-on-one feedback and coaching that supports associate development and achievement of results. Regularly and proactively leverage the expertise of bank partners, other managers, or team.
Service Standards
In this role, you will foster collaborative partnerships that deliver value for customers, prospects, and colleagues. You will initiate conversations to uncover sales or referral opportunities.
Operations and Administration
Compliance with all regulations, bank policies, procedures, and delegated authorities is a must to manage risk related to credit, operational, reputational, regulatory, and legal aspects of personal interactions, customer transactions, and financial exposures.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience in sales, consumer or business lending, including 3 years of sales coaching or sales management is required. Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the same fields, including 3 years of sales coaching or sales management will be considered.
Additional Requirements:
It’s essential to complete federal registration and annual renewal as required by the SAFE Act. FINRA Series 6 and 63 registrations (or equivalent) and a state-specific life insurance license must be active and maintained or obtained within 120 days of your job entry date.
Employment Agreement Requirement:
Dual Employment Agreement (all FCB/FCIS Wealth Management – dual associates, including LPAs)
Other Preferred Qualifications:
Currently holds FINRA 6 and 63 registrations as well as a state-specific life insurance license, and maintains continuing education coursework to keep licenses and/or registrations in active standing. Understanding of retail banking products and services, ability to network and build centers of influence, and business development capabilities are preferred.
