As a Manager of Retail Banking, one is not just signing up for a job, but embracing a role where they can make a real difference. This role involves managing sales for at least six branches and, in select markets, Premier Relationship Bankers. The manager is expected to implement and manage staffing and sales activity plans to meet the financial growth goals of the bank. This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires the individual to drive accountability, acquisition, expansion, and retention of consumer and small business banking relationships.

Responsibilities of a Manager of Retail Banking

A Manager of Retail Banking has several critical responsibilities. These are broadly categorized into: Team Management, Service Standards, and Operations and Administration.

Team Management

As a team manager, the individual is expected to manage the performance and personnel functions effectively. This includes ensuring operational soundness while executing a plan to deliver results that create value for the customer and meet the financial expectations of the bank. The manager needs to drive accountability to role expectations, responsibilities, and authorities, providing one on one feedback and coaching that supports associate development and achievement of results. Regular and proactive leverage of the expertise of bank partners, other managers, or team is also expected.

Service Standards

The manager plays a pivotal role in fostering collaborative partnerships that deliver value for customers, prospects, and colleagues. They need to initiate conversation to uncover sales or referral opportunities.

Operations and Administration

The manager is required to comply with all regulations, bank policies, procedures, and delegated authorities. This is to manage risk related to credit, operational, reputational, regulatory, and legal aspects of personal interactions, customer transactions, and financial exposures.

Qualifications for the Role

The basic qualifications for this role are a Bachelor degree with a minimum of 6 years experience in sales, consumer or business lending, including 3 years of sales coaching or sales management. Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years experience in a sales, consumer or business lending, including 3 years of sales coaching or sales management is also acceptable.

The role requires federal registration and annual renewal as mandated by the SAFE Act. FINRA Series 6 and 63 registrations (or equivalent) and state-specific life insurance license must be active and maintained or must be obtained within 120 days of job entry date. A dual employment agreement is also a requirement for all FCB/FCIS Wealth Management – dual associates, including LPAs.

Preferred qualifications include current FINRA 6 and 63 registrations as well as state-specific life insurance license, and continuing education coursework to keep licenses and/or registrations in active standing. An understanding of retail banking products and services, the ability to network, and build centers of influence is also preferred.
