Introduction: Square and the Evolution of Commerce
Since its doors opened in 2009, Square has navigated the ever-evolving world of commerce with agility and innovation. The company’s commitment to enable anyone to take payments and never miss a sale has marked its journey. It has continuously addressed the challenges faced by sellers, who were previously stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
Today, Square Banking has become a trusted financial backbone for millions of sellers. It provides businesses with financial solutions that enable faster payments, effortless cash flow management, and reduced worries about money. When Square Core Banking works well, businesses feel its positive impact on their operations. And when it doesn’t, they feel that too.
Square Banking: A Different Kind of Bank
We’re not building another bank. We’re building the bank our small businesses actually need.
While traditional banks often treat business banking as an afterthought, Square is building something fundamentally different. A core banking platform designed from the ground up, Square addresses the realities of running a small business:
- A food truck needing to pay a supplier instantly
- A salon needing to move money between accounts at 9 PM on a Sunday
- A contractor needing Zelle to work seamlessly with their business account
Square is not about banking as usual. It’s about banking that actually works.
The Role: Head of Product, Square Core Banking
This isn’t about managing a roadmap. It’s about building the future of business banking.
Square is hiring a Head of Product, Square Core Banking to lead the product team responsible for building the foundational banking infrastructure that powers everything. This includes business checking, savings, instant transfers, instant payouts, Zelle, and more.
This role is about owning the vision, the strategy, the team, and the results. Every decision made, from architecture choices and feature priorities to technical trade-offs, will impact whether a business can make payroll on time, access their money when they need it, or feel like their bank actually works for them instead of against them. As one of the most important bets Square is making, this role will be accountable for its success.
With Square’s distribution, brand, and a company culture that cares about making sellers’ lives easier, the appointed leader will have the support needed to make it happen.
This role is a once-in-a-career opportunity for the kind of product leader who gets excited by hard problems, loves building things that matter, and wants to fundamentally change how small businesses manage money.
Responsibilities: Defining the Product Vision, Driving Execution, Leading Through Complexity, Building and Growing the Team, and Measuring What Matters
The Head of Product, Square Core Banking will take on a range of responsibilities. This includes defining the multi-year product strategy, owning end-to-end product development, navigating regulatory requirements and risk management, recruiting and developing a high-performing team of senior product managers, and defining success metrics that capture customer value and business impact.
Qualifications
Prospective candidates should bring 12+ years of experience in product management, with significant time spent building banking, payments, or financial infrastructure products. They should have a deep understanding of core banking systems, money movement rails, regulatory requirements, and operational risk. A track record of shipping products that customers love and meet the high bar for security, compliance, and reliability that financial services demand is essential.
In building an inclusive and diverse workplace, Square is committed to providing equal opportunities to all candidates. The company encourages applications from all backgrounds.
