Natural Resources Group
As part of this dynamic division, the Natural Resources Group is a global team with bankers around the world. The group has a significant presence with offices in multiple cities including New York, Houston, Toronto, Calgary, London, Hong Kong, and Buenos Aires among others. The group covers a broad spectrum of sectors including Metals & Mining, Chemicals, Power & Utilities, and Energy (including Alternative and Renewable Energy).
Role of Associates in the Investment Banking Division
Associates play a crucial role in the Investment Banking Division. They are instrumental in developing and strengthening client relationships, participating in advisory teams, and structuring and executing a full range of financial transactions. Their responsibilities include creating and analyzing financial models, organizing and preparing client presentations, helping manage transaction processes, and assisting in structuring transactions.
Associates gain exposure to various facets of the firm’s businesses which expands their knowledge of the investment banking industry. This role helps them develop key analytical, communications, and marketing skills. They are actively involved in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions and fixed income and equity issuances. Associates prepare presentations which explain industry trends, assess clients’ situations, and provide necessary financial advice. They recommend strategies to meet client goals and coordinate teams of tax advisors, attorneys, and bankers for various transactions.
Skills and Experiences Desired
Goldman Sachs looks for certain qualities in its Associates. A minimum of 3 years’ investment banking or equivalent experience is required. They should have a history of outstanding academic and professional achievement. A strong team orientation is crucial along with the ability to work effectively with team members in multiple groups and regions. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, juggle changing priorities and a varied workload is also a requisite. Experience in Natural Resources banking and transaction is preferred.
Salary and Benefits
The expected base salary for this Houston, Texas United States-based position ranges from $150,000 to $225,000, plus a discretionary bonus for active employees as of the fiscal year-end.
