The Private Equity Industry in 2026: A Promising Outlook
The private equity industry saw some successes in 2025, with consulting firms like Bain & Co. predicting an even more promising year ahead in 2026. Some bankers are even returning from retirement for the opportunities that lie ahead.
John Stroll’s Move to Crédit Agricole
Recently, John Stroll made a significant career move by joining Crédit Agricole as a managing director in the French bank’s private capital group for the Americas. Stroll, who was previously with Mizuho in New York, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
After spending six years at Mizuho and reaching the position of MD in its financial sponsors and strategic solutions team, Stroll decided to part ways with the firm at the end of 2024. While his activities in 2025 remain somewhat unclear, his social media posts hint at a potential venture into owning and operating small businesses. Interestingly, Stroll was not registered with FINRA during this time, indicating a shift away from traditional Wall Street roles.
Crédit Agricole’s Private Capital Group
Despite its name, Crédit Agricole’s private capital group does not engage in private credit transactions. Instead, the group focuses on supporting private equity, infrastructure, and real estate investors. This strategic positioning has shielded it from the challenges faced by other firms in the industry, such as Ares and Apollo, who have had to limit investor redemptions due to market conditions.
