The Opportunity
USAA is currently seeking an Executive Director of Solution Engineering in the banking segment. This position requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of banking domains, enterprise architecture, and IT strategy. The leader will play a pivotal role as a trusted advisor to the CIO, translating complex business needs into scalable, secure, and innovative technical solutions. Exceptional communication skills are integral to this role, as the individual will need to engage with General Managers and business leaders, evaluate vendor technologies, and recommend strategic solutions that align with the bank’s business needs and roadmap.
This role offers the flexibility of remote work within the continental U.S., with occasional business travel. However, for individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office, a four-days-per-week on-site presence is expected.
Key Responsibilities
As the Executive Director of Solution Engineering, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that include:
- Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of Solution Engineers.
- Translating business strategies and requirements into comprehensive technical solution designs.
- Collaborating with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic goals and proactively identify technology opportunities.
- Evaluating, recommending, and integrating vendor products and emerging technologies.
- Ensuring architectural consistency, scalability, and security across all solution designs.
- Representing the bank in external technical forums and contributing to industry thought leadership.
- Demonstrating high accountability and ownership for solution outcomes and architectural integrity.
- Participating in activities that support the USAA technology ecosystem.
- Fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the solution engineering team.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
For this position, you will need:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 12+ years of experience in software development, enterprise architecture, or IT strategy.
- 5+ years in a leadership role managing technical teams in a banking or financial services environment.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale, secure, and scalable IT solutions.
- Deep expertise in banking domains, strong architectural knowledge, and exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with regulatory compliance, risk frameworks, and secure solution design.
Preferred certifications include TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is: $169,880-$305,780. At USAA, we have an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. Pay incentives may also be available based on overall corporate and individual performance.
