Distinguished Data Engineer- Bank Tech Role at Capital One
Capital One is looking for a Distinguished Data Engineer to join their Bank Tech team. This individual will play a critical role in the bank’s data modernization efforts, working with the bank data organization, Horzianal, to build and operate on unified, resilient, and compliant Enterprise Data Platforms. This key position is aimed at setting the technical vision, prototyping, and driving the complex data domain data architecture for the banking domains. The successful candidate will also work closely with enterprise teams to develop highly resilient data platforms.

Responsibilities of a Distinguished Data Engineer
As a Distinguished Data Engineer at Capital One, the individual will be responsible for building awareness and increasing knowledge of modern technologies. They will strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where others’ ideas can be heard and championed. They will also promote a culture of engineering excellence, using opportunities to reuse and innersource solutions where possible. The Distinguished Data Engineer will effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise at all levels of the organization. They will operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform, or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in a unified manner. Furthermore, they will lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent, and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One’s Tech talent.
Basic and Preferred Qualifications
The basic qualifications for the role include a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of seven years of experience in data engineering. The candidate should also have at least three years of experience in data architecture and at least two years of experience building applications in AWS. The preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, over nine years of experience in data engineering, and over three years of data modeling experience. The candidate should also have experience with ontology standards for defining a domain, experience using Python, SQL or Scala, and experience deploying machine learning models.
