The Role of a Director in Product Management – Open Banking at Capital One

Responsibilities of an Open Banking Team Product Leader

As a Product Leader in the Open Banking Team at Capital One, you will be tasked with a range of responsibilities that will drive the future of open banking data usage. These responsibilities include defining Capital One’s long-term vision for utilizing open banking data, championing this vision with the Senior Leadership, and bringing it to life through your cross-functional team.

Developing Product and Business Strategy

You will be expected to develop both product and business strategy, prioritizing investments to help us achieve our vision. This will require rallying support from various Business Divisions and working closely with a team of cross-functional partners, including Business, Engineering, Design, Data Analytics, Data Science, Legal, and Risk departments, to refine the strategy and deliver the required capabilities.

Delivering Capital One’s Enterprise-Wide Open Banking Platform

The role also involves setting the requirements and delivering Capital One’s Enterprise-wide open banking Platform. This will involve ensuring our product portfolio meets or exceeds the requirements set forth by the upcoming relevant open banking regulations in the US and Canada. In addition, you will be supporting the Business in launching and scaling new open banking use cases and experiences.

Coaching and Growing a High-Performing Team

An important part of the role is to coach and grow a high-performing team of Product and Process Managers. This involves developing the team’s skills, fostering a positive and productive work environment, and ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality work.

  • Transformational Leadership: This involves leading cross-functional teams to solve customer problems and drive organizational alignment.

Qualifications for the Role

The ideal candidate for this position would possess the following traits:

  • Intellectual Curiosity: You should be comfortable navigating between big ideas and executional realities to create an achievable strategic Product Vision. You should also be comfortable with ambiguity, have a hunger to learn, and be a seeker of new challenges.

Basic Qualifications:

At least 7 years of experience working in Product Management and a degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer-facing digital products, 8+ years of experience in Agile product management, and 8+ years of experience developing and executing long-term business strategy is preferred.
