Bank of America’s Alexandre Bettamio Eyed for B3 SA Chief Executive Role
According to informed sources, Alexandre Bettamio, the co-chairman of Bank of America’s global corporate and investment banking, is being considered for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of B3 SA, Brazil’s major stock and derivatives exchange. The sources requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the personnel discussions.
Alexandre Bettamio: A Veteran Dealmaker
Alexandre Bettamio, a seasoned figure in the world of investment banking, has a track record that positions him as a strong contender for the CEO role at B3 SA. He was the global co-head of investment banking at Bank of America until August. Following this, he was promoted to co-chairman of global corporate and investment banking.
Bettamio’s history with Bank of America dates back to 2008, when he became the head of Merrill Lynch’s Brazilian investment banking unit. A few months later, in September, he was promoted to the role of CEO for the entire business. His impressive trajectory at the company continued, and he was appointed the head of Latin America in 2013.
Other Potential Candidates
While Bettamio is a strong contender, Bank of America is also considering internal candidates for the CEO role at B3 SA. The vice president of products and clients at B3, Luiz Masagao, is among those being considered. Masagao joined the B3 team in 2024, transitioning from Banco Santander. His previous roles included serving as the head of markets for Latin America. His rich experience also includes tenures at Morgan Stanley and Citi.
Replacing Gilson Finkelsztain
The search for the new CEO comes after the departure of Gilson Finkelsztain, who was appointed as the CEO of Banco Santander Brasil last month. His exit has created a leadership vacuum at B3 SA, which the company is looking to fill with a candidate of equal caliber and experience.
B3 SA is the leading stock and derivatives exchange in Brazil, playing a significant role in the country’s financial infrastructure. The choice of the new CEO will impact not only the company’s direction but also the broader financial landscape in Brazil.
