TD Bank, a leading global financial institution and the fifth largest bank in North America by branches, is offering an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking legal counsel to join its Digital Banking and Innovation Legal Team. The position is based in New York, New York, and offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 – $231,000 USD based on skills and experience. The role entails a 40-hour work week commitment.

Role and Responsibilities
The chosen legal counsel will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of banking in the digital age. The individual will work closely with business, technology, risk, and compliance stakeholders to enable responsible innovation throughout the product lifecycle. As a thought leader on the Digital Banking and Innovation Legal Team, the counsel will also develop risk management frameworks and advise TD Bank US on a variety of cutting-edge topics. These include artificial intelligence, digital assets, digital banking platforms, open banking, electronic payment systems, and related third-party and fintech partnerships.
Additionally, the counsel will apply existing and emerging laws, rules, and regulations to current and future banking products and services across the bank. They will also need to provide consistent and sound legal advice, effectively contribute to negotiations and conflict resolutions, and identify conflict situations. This role may also involve supervising administrative and paralegal staff and junior attorneys.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. They must also have a minimum of 5 years of related experience and be admitted to the appropriate State Bar in good standing. A basic understanding of banking/financial services operations and issues, excellent communication skills, integrity, high moral standards, and strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills are also required.
Preferred qualifications include excellent verbal and written communication skills, curiosity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Experience advising banks or other financial services clients in a large law firm setting or similar in-house experience is also desirable.
