Job Role: Commercial Banker for Disruptive Commerce and Internet Banking

The role of a commercial banker is a critical one, especially in the constantly evolving sphere of disruptive commerce and internet banking. A commercial banker is responsible for establishing and nurturing profitable relationships within the Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries, with a particular focus on disruptive commerce and internet. The role is customer-oriented and involves providing financial advice and building strong relationships with clients.

The Disruptive Commerce and Internet Banking team is a key element of J.P. Morgan’s Commercial Bank, operating within its Middle Market Banking and Specialized Industries group. As a commercial banker, you are at the heart of client acquisition and relationship maintenance with some of the most innovative companies in the world. The role requires both independent work and team collaboration to deliver the full range of the firm’s services to clients.

Job Responsibilities

As a commercial banker, your responsibilities will be diverse and dynamic. They include:

  • Building a brand within your market that positions the Disruptive Commerce and Internet Banking team as the leading Innovation Economy bank serving the best and most diverse clients.
  • Generating new business by establishing new relationships, deepening existing ones, and delivering the full range of the firm’s services, while leading internal strategic discussions across all our solutions, including credit and payments.
  • Pursuing the most innovative and diverse founders by leveraging a referral network built through business activities and relationship development.
  • Promoting a culture of innovation and customer-centricity balanced with the ability to manage risk (credit, operational, and reputational) appropriately.
  • Maintaining a passion for innovation, the start-up ecosystem, and entrepreneurship, leading to a desire to stay up-to-date with industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation or strategic partnerships.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

The role of a commercial banker requires specific qualifications, capabilities and skills. These include:

  • Over 5 years of related experience.
  • A strong understanding of Commercial Banking products and services.
  • Excellent sales management and business development skills.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and strong partnerships with senior business and control partners.
  • Self-direction, proactivity and creativity; the ability to use sound judgment and navigate ambiguity to get things done.
  • The requirement to obtain FINRA Series 79, 63 and Securities Industry Essentials licenses within 180 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

While not mandatory, the following qualifications, capabilities and skills are preferred:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and formal credit training.
  • A strong commitment to teamwork, with the desire to contribute to a national team of like-minded, passionate Innovation Economy bankers.
