Strategic Leadership and Growth Strategy
As part of their general responsibilities, the Business Director will be expected to refine the multi-year north star visions and strategies for Retail Bank’s most critical domains such as Core Modernization, AI strategy, and next-gen Payments. This ensures that foundational technical investments are seamlessly mapped to long-term enterprise growth and customer value. Furthermore, they will lead high-velocity strategy sprints to identify net-new growth vectors to rapidly scale the retail banking footprint.
They will also develop business strategies that drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands. As part of their role, they will build rigorous economic models and valuation analysis to quantify product bets, ensuring that every initiative drives clear ROI and customer lifetime value.
Product Strategy and Cross-Functional Orchestration
As a Business Director, one will serve as the “connective tissue” between Product, Tech, Business, and Design. This involves translating complex business intent and technical constraints into clear and tangible strategic roadmaps. They will also lead “0-to-1” strategy sprints and lean experiments to validate customer needs and strategic growth opportunities in the banking ecosystem.
In terms of people leadership, the Business Director will be expected to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. They should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will have an intuitive understanding of what makes a digital product “sticky” and a passion for simplifying complex financial lives. They should be able to jump from a high-level 30,000-foot strategy to a 5-foot deep dive into data or tech constraints without losing momentum. It’s also crucial for them to be comfortable taking a vague problem statement and turning it into a strategic product vision.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications for this role include a Bachelor’s Degree in any quantitative field such as Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, or Engineering, and at least 7 years of experience in analysis. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, 2+ years of experience in financial services, 1+ year of experience in consulting, and 3+ years of experience in people management.
