Understanding the Role of a Business Banking Relationship Specialist

A Business Banking Relationship Specialist plays an integral role in the banking sector by providing support to Business Banking clients. This position, which reports directly to the Business Banking Relationship Specialist Manager, is centered around onboarding, sales, service, and ongoing client relationship management. It requires coordination with Business Banking Relationship Managers and Business Banking Team Leaders to facilitate the client’s engagement. This is achieved through managing customer relationships, customer service interaction, credit and deposit services processes, and taking on other client/internal support responsibilities.

The Responsibilities of a Business Banking Relationship Specialist

The tasks of a Business Banking Relationship Specialist are diverse and multi-faceted. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that daily incoming customer requests, inquiries and escalated issues are handled with professionalism and consistency. This involves researching, troubleshooting, and solving customer issues and communicating “best practices” to ensure that consistent solutions are being developed to achieve top-level customer service.

Reporting is also a key part of this role. Business Banking Relationship Specialists are tasked with facilitating reporting for Business Banking teams and stakeholders to actively manage work flow around client sales, compliance, credit management, renewals, and partner referrals. Adherence to all applicable laws and regulations governing bank operations, as well as conformity with the bank’s loan documentation & administration policies, is of utmost importance.

The role also includes facilitating new account deposit openings and managing the cross-sell implementation of all related product set-ups. This individual actively manages overdrafts and loan payment issues needing correction. They also oversee the communication, development, and documentation of all policies and procedures, ensuring consistent execution of Business Banking customer service procedures.

Participation in projects, initiatives, and committees to develop efficient, streamlined work processes is another important aspect of this role. This includes opening Business Banking deposit accounts according to guidelines and procedures and facilitating cross-sell of related products with new deposit openings. Additionally, the role involves processing payments, advances on loans, account maintenance, research on client accounts, and maintaining files and clearing exceptions as needed.

Skills and Experience Required

The position of a Business Banking Relationship Specialist requires specific skills and experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with up to five years of business or retail banking experience or industry-related experience. Superior customer service skills are a must, along with excellent computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites. Excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities, superior time management and problem-solving skills, flexibility, ability to work independently as well as within a team environment, and analytical skills are also necessary.

The compensation offered for this position will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. The position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
