Currently, Mechanics Bank is looking to expand its team in the Santa Barbara Cottage Branch. The bank has announced a job opening for the position of a Banking Services Officer. The selected candidate will be entrusted with managing the administrative, compliance, operations, and daily functions of the branch.

This role involves remote supervision from the Area Operations Manager and dotted line reporting to the Branch Manager. The Banking Services Officer will be responsible for leading branch operations, service, compliance, and human resource tasks for the operations staff. The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in bank policies and procedures and will oversee the teller line, cash handling, dual control functions, and employee training and development.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Banking Services Officer will manage the compliance and operations functions of the branch. This involves setting priorities, identifying and solving operational issues, and ensuring adherence to Bank policies and regulatory requirements. The officer will also be responsible for the branch’s overall operational quality.
  • The officer will also manage and lead a team of employees, providing them with the necessary coaching, feedback, and developmental support. This includes hiring new employees, conducting performance assessments, and initiating disciplinary actions.
  • Ensuring exemplary customer service standards in the branch is another core responsibility. This involves managing appropriate staffing and skill levels, resolving customer complaints promptly, and performing transactions for customers.
  • Collaborating with the Branch Manager to develop a strategic plan for the branch’s success is also part of the job. This includes business development, customer retention, employee development, operational soundness, and branch efficiency.
  • In the absence of the Branch Manager, the Banking Services Officer will manage the office.
  • The officer is also expected to ensure active participation and leadership in the local community, including CRA activities.

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

  • The ideal candidate should have a High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of banking experience, with a focus on operations, is required.
  • At least 2 years of management experience is preferred.
  • The candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of Retail Office operations, Bank policy, and Risk Management policies.
  • A basic understanding of small business and consumer credit principles and practices is essential.
  • The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of managing and leading people.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal banking regulations pertinent to retail operations is necessary.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle customer issues in difficult situations are crucial.
  • The candidate should be seen as a role model for customer service.

Compensation and Benefits

The bank offers a competitive pay range of $70,000 – $87,000 annually. Additionally, employees may qualify for an AIP/Bonus of up to 7.5% and are also eligible for commission/incentive plans.
