They are primarily tasked with acquiring, retaining, and expanding banking relationships with both business and consumer clients. Their role is instrumental in creating a seamless banking experience while upholding the ConnectOne Culture. Their expertise in banking products and services, coupled with their commitment to customer service, make them a vital cog in the wheel of the banking industry.

Key Responsibilities of a Banking Relationship Specialist

Banking Relationship Specialists wear many hats, and their responsibilities are manifold. They are expected to support the Bank’s “People First” focus and are required to adhere to a set of engagement rules. This can involve greeting clients by their name, maintaining professionalism at all times, and ensuring that the branch reflects ConnectOne Bank standards. They are expected to be proactive in identifying opportunities for relationship expansion by cross-selling the Bank’s products and services in a consultative manner.

These specialists are also responsible for opening deposit product accounts and educating clients about the Bank’s product and service offerings. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that all activities, transactions, and records comply with the operational, security, and control procedures of the Bank. This includes preventing fraud and protecting customer assets.

Further, they are expected to handle customer service issues by conducting research, taking ownership, and following up on a daily basis until the issue is resolved. They also assist other branch team members with transactions and overall operations, and provide feedback and coaching to improve overall team performance. They perform service transactions for the Branch, including check re-orders, address/name changes, safe deposit box access, outbound wires, account maintenance, and outbound client contact. They are also expected to serve as the primary back-up to the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager for operational and service-related functions.

Additionally, Banking Relationship Specialists are responsible for actively participating in achieving branch sales goals, maintaining a 90% plus service performance, and reinforcing feedback gained from mystery shops. They also support retail and community events to promote the brand in accordance with the retail business plan. Other duties may also be assigned to them based on business requirements.

Skills and Abilities Required for a Banking Relationship Specialist

A successful Banking Relationship Specialist must possess expert knowledge about the Bank’s products and services. They must have a thorough understanding of procedures and policies regarding banking transactions and should be aware of relevant Federal and State banking regulations.

Strong needs-based sales skills are a must for this role, along with one to three years of bank platform sales and teller experience. A comprehensive understanding of federal banking compliance and requirements is also necessary. These specialists should have a strong “People First” interest and ability, coupled with a knack for assessing and meeting the needs of customers and solving their problems.

Effective team-building and interpersonal communication abilities are crucial for this role. They must also be physically capable of lifting items up to 25 lbs. Mastery of the ConnectOne Bank culture is a prerequisite for this role. To support business needs, the ability to work a flexible schedule is required.

The salary range for this role is approximately $22-$27 per hour, although this can vary based on experience and location.
