Essential Job Functions
A Banking Relationship Specialist is expected to perform a variety of tasks, each as important as the other. The responsibilities include:
- Cultivating professional relationships with customers. This involves utilizing assessment tools and engaging customers in meaningful conversations to uncover needs, make appropriate recommendations, and submit referrals to banking center team members or line of business partners.
- Using assessment tools to maintain detailed notes regarding customer conversations and interactions is crucial, as it helps to keep track of customer preferences and needs.
- Offering services such as opening and servicing deposit accounts, including complex business accounts.
- Building a consumer loan portfolio is another critical task, which requires a keen understanding of the financial market and customer needs.
- Conducting outbound business development and community involvement activities to strengthen the bank’s brand and customer base.
- Participation in morning huddles, calling efforts, business development, and constructive coaching conversations with leadership is vital, as it helps to align team goals and strategies.
- Processing account transactions accurately and efficiently to minimize errors and reduce fraud is a critical aspect of this role.
- Resolving client concerns in a timely, professional, and positive manner, escalating issues to the next level of authority, as needed, is expected.
- Acting as a role model for banking center team members and coaching relationship-building activities.
- Collaboration with line of business partners to foster teamwork, exceptional customer service, and continuous learning.
- Providing backup and assistance to other retail banking roles and locations, as necessary.
- Modeling and championing the Bank’s standards for exceptional customer service.
- Supporting the bank’s values and mission with enthusiasm.
- Displaying a high degree of integrity, trustworthiness, and professionalism at all times.
- Promoting teamwork, leading by example, and taking the initiative to assist others.
- Completing all essential training timely.

A Banking Relationship Specialist should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of bank products and services (e.g., online banking, mobile banking applications, banking cards)
- Understanding of bank policies and procedures
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and demonstrate a helpful, friendly, approachable, enthusiastic, and professional disposition
- Confidence and ability to act as a trusted advisor.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing

Basic Qualifications
The basic qualifications for a Banking Relationship Specialist include:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, but a bachelor’s degree is preferred
- At least 1 year of retail customer service and/or sales experience is required
- Knowledge of business and consumer products is necessary
- Experience with and ability to explain bank products, online banking, mobile banking applications, banking cards, etc. is preferred
- Proven ability to achieve sales goals and financial targets is preferred
- Experience in a leadership and/or coaching role is strongly preferred
- NMLS is required
