Square Financial Services: The Banking Arm of Block
Square Financial Services, Inc (“SFS”) is Block’s banking division. Incepted in March 2021, SFS offers lending and FDIC insured deposit services to small businesses across the nation. The Strategy and Product team of SFS is responsible for developing and executing the Bank’s strategic roadmap, providing the bank with modern infrastructure and high-quality services. The Role of a Program Analyst at Block
The role of a Program Analyst at Block is pivotal in supporting the Change Management Program and Program Managers. This program supervises changes to the Bank’s products, encompassing customer communications, product changes, credit, and more. The Program Analyst ensures that change management reviews are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements. They play a highly visible and critical part in coordinating all changes for the Bank’s products. They work closely with cross-functional partners across product, credit, risk, legal, finance and accounting, compliance, and operations to coordinate review workflows, track and document approvals, and maintain clear communication throughout each review. They are tasked with driving accountability to their processes while continually pursuing ways to enhance them.
Responsibilities of a Program Analyst
As a Program Analyst, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
Change Management Review Process Governance
- Coordinating end-to-end change management review workflows for new and altered customer-facing collateral, product changes, and credit and underwriting changes.
- Managing review schedules, timelines, and dependencies across multiple stakeholders.
- Ensuring review requirements are clearly communicated and consistently followed.
- Supporting adherence to internal controls, governance standards, and regulatory expectations as outlined by policy or procedure.
Approval Tracking, Follow-Up, and Documentation
- Tracking approvals, feedback, and open items across all change management review types.
- Following up on outstanding questions and requests to drive timely completion of reviews.
- Pushing approvals through required channels, including formal sign-off and escalation paths.
- Maintaining accurate records of review status, decisions, and approvals.
- Exploring ways to improve workflows through tooling and automation, including leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance visibility, efficiency, and scalability of review and approval processes.
Communication and Documentation
- Monitoring Slack and other collaboration channels for review-related discussions and decisions and general conversation related to SFS products.
- Tracking discussion threads to ensure follow-ups are completed and documented.
- Capturing, organizing, and distributing meeting notes, decisions, and action items.
- Providing clear, timely status updates to stakeholders.
Coordination and Program Support
- Coordinating and scheduling meetings with cross-functional teams.
- Preparing agendas and meeting materials to support effective discussions.
- Attending meetings to document outcomes, decisions, and next steps.
As a Program Analyst, you will assist in preparing committee meeting materials and fostering strong working relationships across SFS and Block teams.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate for the Program Analyst role at Block is one who is highly organized, detail-oriented, systems-minded, proactive, clear and thoughtful communicator, and collaborative. They should have a knack for improving workflows through tooling and automation, including leveraging AI. The role requires someone who is comfortable managing multiple workflows while maintaining accuracy and consistency. Experience in program coordination, operations, or process management roles is a must. Familiarity with collaboration and documentation tools such as Slack, document repositories, scheduling tools is an added advantage. Experience working in regulated financial services environments and familiarity with change management governance processes is desirable.
