The Role of a Capital Markets Intern Analyst

The Capital Markets Intern Analyst is an intermediate level position that plays a crucial role in the financial industry. This position involves assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets and providing strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions, and other types of financial transactions. These tasks are carried out in coordination with the Institutional Banking team. The overall objective of this role is to act as a strategic advisor to clients by raising capital for them.

Joining Citi’s Banking Group

Citi’s Banking Group is seeking one Summer Analyst to join its prestigious Latin America Debt Capital Markets group in New York. This group specializes in helping its clients raise debt in the international debt capital markets (DCM) and/or in the international bank market through syndicated loans. The team provides advisory, structuring, and executing bond and syndicated loan issuances, acquisition finance, leverage finance, project finance, and liability management. This includes corporate and sovereign restructurings for Latin American and Caribbean sovereign, financial, and corporate issuers across a broad range of industries and across the credit rating spectrum, from investment grade to high yield.

Working with Internal Partners

Throughout the deal origination and execution process, the Latin America Debt Capital Markets group works closely with a range of internal partners. These include specialist product groups in Capital Market, such as Liability Management or Project Finance, as well as partners throughout the bank including Debt Syndicate and Sales & Trading. The group has a global reach, servicing its client base from various locations, including New York, Mexico, and Brazil. The Latin America Debt Capital Markets group leverages colleagues across the globe and more specifically all Corporate Banking professionals across the region.

Preparing for Success with the Summer Analyst Program

The 10-week Summer Analyst program, which starts in June, is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and training they need to play a valuable role on the team, and to set the foundation for a long-term career in financial services. The program begins with a 1-week training period, after which participants often return to Citi to become full-time Analysts. As a Summer Analyst, participants will join the #1 Latin America Debt team on the street and have the opportunity to work on transactions involving both the public and the private sectors, across all industries and exploring the broad palette of debt financing products.

Role and Responsibilities of a Summer Analyst

The Summer Analyst will be required to analyze market activity and prepare client materials outlining any relevant developments affecting primary and secondary Latin American markets. They will also assist in the preparation of pitching materials to generate new business opportunities and in the execution of mandated transactions. This includes coordinating tasks with internal and external working teams and preparing required internal documentation. Analysts will also participate in pricing of transactions.

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is graduating between December 2027 and June 2028 and has a preferred GPA of 3.3 or above. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a commitment to personal growth and career development, a strong desire to learn, and succeed in team environments. Knowledge of or interest in learning about the global and regional market dynamics and landscape is a plus. A strong communicator with planning and organizational skills is most likely to excel in this role. A passion for client service, a dedication to deliver the best results on every project, a desire to develop a deep understanding of the financial industry, and an unquestioned commitment to integrity and ethical decision-making are all key traits we value.

Salary and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $110,000. In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may also include, for eligible employees, discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
