The role of a banking center manager is dynamic and multi-faceted, requiring a fine balance of leadership, relationship management, business development, and customer service. This position is crucial for the overall functioning of the banking center, setting a high standard of accountability while fostering a positive work environment for team members. The manager is also responsible for establishing fruitful relationships with peers, business partners, and the community at large.

Essential Job Functions of a Banking Center Manager

The quintessence of this role lies in managing the branch staff. This includes daily supervision, conducting interviews and hiring, providing training, undertaking performance appraisals, and making promotion and pay recommendations. Managers are also responsible for any separations of direct reports.

Engaging associates in daily huddles is another critical aspect of this role. This encourages relationship-building activities among team members and fosters a sense of camaraderie in the workplace.

Banking center managers play a pivotal role in the growth of the bank. They are responsible for retaining, growing, and attracting clients, thereby supporting the bank’s overarching goals. This often involves cultivating professional relationships with customers and engaging them in meaningful conversations to understand their financial needs better. Consequently, managers can make appropriate recommendations and submit referrals to banking center team members or line of business partners.

Community involvement is another key responsibility. Managers are expected to participate in community activities, promoting the bank’s brand, supporting business development, and aiding staff recruitment efforts. The ability to model and coach daily activities, including spotting opportunities, building client relationships, account opening, lending, and lobby management, is also expected.

Ensuring accurate and efficient account transactions to minimize errors and reduce fraud is a critical function of the manager. They are also tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of the banking center, executing strategic and tactical plans to ensure sound operational performance and positive audit results.

Managers are also held accountable for banking center security, ensuring compliance with the bank’s security program, policies, and procedures. Regular and effective communication with banking center team members and regional leadership is a key expectation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A proficient banking center manager has a comprehensive knowledge of retail bank products and services, bank regulations, policies, procedures, and operational standards. They understand business development techniques in a retail environment and are able to think strategically, translating goals into actionable, detailed, day-to-day execution.

They have excellent customer service skills and can communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. They are team-oriented leaders, capable of managing and thriving in a continually changing environment. Essential skills include identifying client needs, developing and growing business, and using computer and Microsoft Office applications necessary to perform essential job functions.

Basic Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience is required. The role also demands 2+ years of retail client service and/or business development experience. One year of business development management/leadership experience is strongly preferred. The candidate must also have a proven record of achieving business growth goals and financial targets. A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and NMLS are also required.

Job Expectations

Banking center managers are expected to operate customary equipment and technology used in a business environment, with or without accommodation. They are required to adhere to all Bank policies, procedures, and guidelines.
