The Role of an Associate Banking Advisor
An Associate Banking Advisor at Northern Trust plays a crucial role in providing high-quality service and operational support to commercial banking clients. As a primary point of contact for clients, these advisors respond professionally and promptly to inbound calls and emails related to account servicing, transactions, documentation requests, and loan activity.
Working closely with a small, collaborative team of Banking Relationship Managers, Portfolio Banking Advisors, and internal partners, they manage client relationships, service needs, and support credit and account administration activities. The role requires excellent client communication skills, strong knowledge of banking products and services, and a demonstrated experience in credit underwriting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities of an Associate Banking Advisor
As an Associate Banking Advisor, you would be expected to fulfill a range of responsibilities that contribute to the smooth operation of the institution and the satisfaction of its clients. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing prompt, professional responses to client inquiries and service requests.
- Supporting day-to-day management of client portfolios, including account administration and preparation for client meetings and presentations.
- Collaborating effectively with a team to ensure efficient and consistent client servicing.
- Coordinating daily client transaction activities, including account openings, fees, payments, and loan activity.
- Identifying opportunities to improve service efficiency and delivery models.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of loan agreements, financial statements, and related documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with new account and relationship requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidates for the Associate Banking Advisor position at Northern Trust are expected to have a minimum of 5+ years of experience in financial services, accounting, or a related field, and a strong background in client servicing. Formal credit training, including at least one year of hands-on credit analysis and underwriting experience, is also required.
Additional skills and qualifications include a strong knowledge of banking products and services, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple service requests simultaneously.
