‘All of wealth management is going on sale’: Steward Partners CEO on M&A boom
But we realize that a lot of the advisors we’re acquiring have built something that’s very special to them. And if we start messing with that, we’re going to lose the magic that made them successful. So we say, “Keep your name, keep your brand. We’ll give you the compliance, the HR, the IT, the operations, the accounting, the legal. We’ll take that headache off your plate so you can focus on what you do best, which is building relationships and managing money.”
FP: How do private equity investors help in identifying operational weaknesses in acquired firms?
JG: Private equity has been a game-changer for us. We’ve been fortunate in that we’ve only taken in the best partners from the private equity community. And to your question, private equity is so good at identifying operational challenges or opportunities.
When you’re running your own business, you’re so close to it that you don’t see the forest for the trees. But when you have someone who’s not emotionally attached come in and say, “You know, your technology stack is outdated,” or “You’ve got too much client concentration risk,” or “You’re using three different CRM systems and that’s not efficient,” that’s where private equity really helps.
FP: How do you see AI impacting the wealth management industry in the next few years?
JG: I think there’s a real opportunity here for AI to complement the advisor. If you think about the advisor’s day, they spend so much time on things that are very low value-added — things that technology can do better, faster and cheaper.
So I think AI has an opportunity to reduce the need for advisors by about 25%. But the advisor will actually be more productive and more valuable, because they’re not spending time on the things that technology can do better. They’re spending time on the things that require judgment, that require empathy, that require creativity.
And that’s where the advisor really adds value. So I see AI as a great opportunity for the industry, not a threat.
FP: What’s next for Steward Partners?
JG: We’re going to continue to grow. I think we’ll continue to grow through M&A. I think we’ll continue to grow through recruiting. I think we’ll continue to grow organically.
We’re going to continue to be a firm that focuses on the advisor, that focuses on the client experience, that focuses on our culture, that focuses on our values.
And I think as long as we continue to do that, we’ll be successful. We’ll be growing. We’ll be able to attract the best advisors in the industry and help them build businesses that they can be really proud of.
And that’s really what we’re all about at Steward Partners.
Exploring Collaborative Options in Wealth Management
We often hear about the changing landscape of wealth management, with new technologies and business models disrupting traditional practices. However, one company, Steward Partners, is taking a different approach by offering a menu of options to their clients. Instead of imposing new programs, they collaborate with advisors to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining the existing team and compensation structure.
Trade-offs and Unique Choices
When it comes to their approach, Steward Partners acknowledges that they may pay more than other firms on an ongoing basis. This commitment to fair compensation reflects their dedication to taking care of the team that advisors have built over the years. By offering stability, flexibility, and continuity, Steward Partners provides a unique choice for advisors looking to sell their firms without disrupting their current operations.
The Role of M&A in Saving the Industry
According to Steward Partners’ CEO, the wealth management industry is facing a shortage of next-gen advisors, creating a need for succession planning. By facilitating mergers and acquisitions, firms like Steward Partners are helping retiring advisors transition their practices to new owners while ensuring the best outcome for clients. This strategic approach to M&A is seen as a way to ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry.
The Impact of Private Equity
Private equity plays a significant role in the wealth management industry, offering financial support and strategic guidance to firms looking to grow or transition ownership. Steward Partners emphasizes the importance of aligning with reputable private equity firms to ensure a successful capital event. By addressing operational weaknesses before entering the market, advisors can maximize their value and attract the right investors.
The Future of Wealth Management with AI
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, wealth management professionals must adapt to meet the changing needs of clients. While AI may empower DIY investors at the lower end of the market, there is a growing demand for full-service wealth management among affluent individuals. Steward Partners predicts a shift towards larger, more sophisticated advisory teams as the industry consolidates, with less competitive players exiting the market.

The Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation”
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the constant barrage of information and stress that bombards us on a daily basis. Many people turn to various coping mechanisms such as exercise, therapy, or medication to help them manage their stress and anxiety. However, one powerful tool that is often overlooked is mindfulness meditation.
Mindfulness meditation is a practice that has been around for thousands of years and is rooted in Buddhist traditions. It involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment, allowing one to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings. This practice has gained popularity in recent years as more research has shown the numerous benefits it can have on both mental and physical health.
One of the key benefits of mindfulness meditation is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. By focusing on the present moment and letting go of worries about the past or future, individuals can experience a sense of calm and relaxation. Studies have shown that regular practice of mindfulness meditation can lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in the body, leading to a decrease in overall stress levels.
In addition to reducing stress, mindfulness meditation has also been shown to improve mental health. Research has found that it can help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improve overall mood and well-being. By cultivating a greater sense of awareness and acceptance of one’s thoughts and emotions, individuals can learn to better cope with difficult situations and regulate their emotions.
Furthermore, mindfulness meditation has been found to enhance cognitive function. Studies have shown that regular practice can improve attention, memory, and decision-making skills. By training the brain to focus on the present moment, individuals can increase their ability to concentrate and retain information, leading to improved performance in various tasks and activities.
Another significant benefit of mindfulness meditation is its impact on physical health. Research has shown that it can lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and improve immune function. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, mindfulness meditation can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, as well as boost overall immune system function.
Moreover, mindfulness meditation can also improve relationships and social interactions. By cultivating a greater sense of compassion and empathy towards oneself and others, individuals can enhance their ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts. This can lead to stronger, more fulfilling relationships with friends, family, and colleagues.
Overall, the benefits of mindfulness meditation are vast and far-reaching. From reducing stress and anxiety to improving mental and physical health, this practice offers a holistic approach to wellness that can benefit individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you are looking to improve your mental clarity, enhance your physical health, or cultivate a greater sense of compassion and empathy, mindfulness meditation can be a powerful tool to help you achieve your goals. So why not give it a try and see the positive impact it can have on your life?
