Adyen to buy Talon. One in first-ever acquisition

Adyen Makes Its First Acquisition with Berlin-based Talon. One

Adyen, a leading financial technology company, is making headlines by stepping away from its traditional preference for in-house development. It has announced an all-cash transaction valued at 750 million euro ($879 million) to acquire Talon. One, a Berlin-based loyalty and incentive marketing firm. This purchase is Adyen’s first-ever acquisition, signaling a significant shift in its Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) strategy.

Significance of the Acquisition in Adyen’s M&A Strategy

Historically, Adyen has favored building its services internally rather than acquiring them. This strategic change is seen as a positive move by industry experts, as it is likely to speed up product-to-market capabilities compared to developing in-house. Keefe Bruyette & Woods analyst Sanjay Sakhrani explained in a research note that the deal also gives Adyen access to new verticals and merchant customers.

Talon. One’s Contribution to Adyen’s Unified Commerce Strategy

The acquisition of Talon. One is expected to close in the second half of 2026, providing Adyen with an opportunity to expand its loyalty offerings and push its unified commerce strategy forward. “Our merchants ask us every day how they can better connect their online and in-store customer data and act on that in real time,” said Ingo Uytdehaage, co-CEO of Adyen. “With Talon. One, a merchant can recognize a shopper and apply a relevant offer instantly, before the payment is completed, ultimately driving higher revenue.”

About Talon.One

Talon. One is a loyalty platform that enables companies to build and manage marketing campaigns. It works with over 300 enterprise merchants, including renowned brands like Swedish clothing company H&M and department store chain Nordstrom. According to Adyen, Talon. One is projected to generate approximately 60 million euros ($70.3 million) in annualized recurring revenue in 2026.

The Importance of the Acquisition for Adyen

The acquisition of Talon. One will extend Adyen’s role beyond payment optimization and processing. It will enable merchants to maximize their customer lifetime value. Sakhrani noted that the technology will integrate Adyen’s payments infrastructure and proprietary transactional data with Talon. One’s decision-making abilities. This integration will not only enhance Adyen’s ability to provide real-time insights from online and in-store but also allow Adyen to monetize marketing revenues in addition to payments.

Adyen’s Expansion Beyond Payment Processing

The deal with Talon. One will broaden Adyen’s total addressable market by allowing it to influence the economics of the transaction, rather than merely optimizing individual payments, according to TD Cowen analyst Bryan Bergin. It will link customer identity to SKU-level promotions and incentives, impacting conversion, fraud, and customer lifetime value in real time.

Adyen has been actively working to expand its business beyond payment processing. Earlier this month, it launched a treasury product called Intelligent Money Movement that combined payments, liquidity management, and disbursements. In February, it also expanded its partnership with Uber outside of its app to a kiosk at New York’s La Guardia’s airport.
