Mechanics Bank, an established pillar of the banking industry, is currently extending an invitation for the right candidate to join their team as a Banking Services Lead. The position is based out of their Salinas Main Branch, where the selected individual will operate under general supervision, performing a host of crucial tasks that are integral to the bank’s operations and customer service.

Job Role and Responsibilities

The role of the Banking Services Lead is multi-faceted, with an emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and excellent customer service. The individual will be expected to execute an array of teller, new account, and maintenance transactions according to the bank’s set procedures. Notably, this role is not just about transactions; it is also about building relationships with customers and meeting their financial needs via ethical referrals.

The Banking Services Lead will work hand-in-hand with the sales team, striving towards the achievement of performance goals. They will support the Retail Banking Services Officer and undertake operational tasks and reporting for the branch. In the absence of the Retail Branch Services Manager or Retail Banking Services Officer, they are expected to act as a subject matter expert on operational policies and procedures.

It is essential that the Banking Services Lead maintains up-to-date knowledge of compliance and regulatory items. It is also expected that they exercise sound judgment, balancing the needs of service and risk when assisting with transactional approvals. The role also involves providing dual control support while strictly adhering to bank policies and procedures.

Key Duties

  • Performing routine teller transactions and directly interacting with customers.
  • Assisting the Retail Operations Manager in ensuring operational soundness at the branch.
  • Leading the branch in providing extraordinary service to customers.
  • Reviewing customer transactions for any red flags and potential fraudulent items.
  • Representing the Bank and its products and services with pride and enthusiasm.
  • Maintaining compliance with internal operational standards and Federal and State regulations.

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

The ideal candidate for the Banking Services Lead position should have a High School Diploma or GED. At least three years of experience in banking operations is required. A notary license is preferred but not obligatory.

Key traits sought after in the candidate include excellent interpersonal skills, customer service, the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member, sound decision-making skills, and excellent time management. The candidate should also possess an extensive knowledge of Bank deposit products and services, as well as Federal and State banking regulations.

Compensation and Benefits

As an employee of Mechanics Bank, the Banking Services Lead can expect a pay range of $22.00 – $30.00 per hour. They may also be eligible for commission/incentive plans. The bank also provides a comprehensive employee benefits program for those working 25 hours or more per week. The benefits package includes medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage, among others.
