A Journey through Fifth Third Bank’s On-Boarding Program
Fifth Third Bank offers a comprehensive 4-8 week on-boarding and education program for selected candidates. The program includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service, offering you a glimpse of the diverse functions within the banking industry. At the conclusion of the program, there’s a certification to provide candidates the opportunity to demonstrate the skills necessary to successfully perform a role within the Retail Personal Banker job family.
The Personal Banker I position is a Financial Center role that encourages proactive identification and meeting of customer’s financial needs through the consultative sales process. This role is not just about processing teller transactions; it’s about working as a member of the platform staff, acquiring new households, and deepening existing customer relationships. The role also involves lobby leadership (Financial Centers) or aisle time (Bank Marts) and tele-consulting.
Responsibilities of a Retail Personal Banker I
As a Retail Personal Banker I, you will be entrusted with the duty of openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. You will be accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, ensuring actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. All of these tasks will be performed within the Bank’s risk appetite, consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Your role as a Retail Personal Banker I entails a wide range of duties and responsibilities. From using the consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build a thorough customer profile, to maintaining an in-depth knowledge of Retail consumer and small business products/services. You will also be required to proactively reach out to customers, set appointments for periodic financial reviews, and cross-sell to existing customer base.
Other responsibilities include establishing close working relationships with assigned Business Partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial, and Investment), referring customers when appropriate to provide timely financial solutions. You will also be responsible for meeting customer experience and individual/team production goals, enhancing year-over-year revenue growth, and providing guidance to CSRs with respect to the sales and referral process.
The role also requires promoting customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism. You must act with confidence by answering customer questions and owning customer issues. Additionally, you will be required to maintain a position of trust and responsibility by keeping all business confidential and adhering to established policies and procedures while opening/servicing the full range of Retail products.
Qualifications and Working Conditions
To qualify for this position, you need a college degree or work experience providing transferrable skills, or a combination of education and experience. Experience in the financial industry is preferred. You need to demonstrate the ability to develop comfort level with sales activities designed to acquire new consumer household and small business customers and/or cross-sell to established customers. You must be able to demonstrate understanding of advanced math functions that will allow for analysis of credit and financial information.
Working for Fifth Third Bank provides you with a normal office environment. The role may require extending viewing of computer screens. The on-boarding program will require the ability to travel within the affiliate for training as well as scheduling flexibility. Some travel outside of the affiliate will also be required for various classroom training sessions.
