Senior Software Engineer, Bank Payments Team
Adyen’s North American Bank Payments team is at the forefront of driving innovation within the region’s core banking infrastructure. The team specializes in managing high-volume payment methods like ACH, the second-largest bank payment method by total volume, and EFT Pre-Authorized Debits (PADs) for Canada.
Currently, the team is executing a significant strategic transition of merchants to a new acquirer under Adyen’s U.S. Bank license to unlock new features. Additionally, the team manages state-of-the-art Pay by Bank solutions, leveraging Open Banking features via partners like Plaid for secure data sharing and direct debit initiation.
Roles and Responsibilities
The role of a Senior Software Engineer at Adyen involves more than just coding. It requires bringing a unique perspective on best engineering practices, leading complex technical projects from inception to deployment, and offering technical guidance to other engineers. Engineers at Adyen are also responsible for identifying areas of the platform that can be improved to make it more robust and scalable. Their code is used at scale, hence it’s crucial to think with that mindset when building features. Given the company’s fast-paced environment, engineers are expected to launch and iterate often.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate?
The ideal candidate for this role is a seasoned engineer with at least eight years of professional experience. They should possess exceptional communication skills, be flexible, a team player, and have an eye for detail. Experience with large-scale distributed systems is a must. Additionally, the candidate should be open to some domestic and international travel.
Technical Qualifications
The role requires demonstrable knowledge of building Java-based web services, experience in designing performant database models in PostgreSQL or other relational databases, and familiarity with various software architecture paradigms such as event-driven or message queueing systems.
