The manager oversees borrowing and depository relationships for small businesses and related business clients and solicits and develops new bank clients through direct sales calls. The approach extends beyond merely growing the book of business through advanced cash flow conversations but also involves nurturing current relationships to ensure client satisfaction.
Furthermore, the role includes the development of community and business relationships necessary for facilitating sales referrals and maintaining knowledge of local business conditions. This knowledge aids the bank’s growth and other goal initiatives, including, but not limited to, the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Given that banking is a highly regulated industry, a Business Banking Relationship Manager is expected to acquire and maintain proficiency in the bank’s policies and procedures and adhere to all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. They are also expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.
The essential duties and responsibilities of a Business Banking Relationship Manager extend to practicing the standards of the Better Banking Pledge and Service & Support Pledge. They manage lending and deposit relationships with small business customers and become fluent in Business Banking Cash Flow behaviours, practices, and needs to best identify client solutions, including deposits, loans, and fee income opportunities.
The Business Banking Relationship Manager serves as the primary contact for Business Banking clients and prospects within the identified branch network, meeting all required follow-up tasks in a timely manner. They continually monitor performance against set production goals and adjust priorities as needed to meet those goals.
Qualifications and Skills
To perform successfully in this role, an individual must possess a certain set of qualifications and skills. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or a minimum of four years of sales experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. In addition, a minimum of two years of retail sales or small business banking experience is essential. Leadership skills are also preferred.
Other essential skills and abilities include a professional demeanor in appearance, interpersonal relations, work ethic, and attitude. The individual should possess clear, concise, effective written and oral communication skills to effectively express thoughts, ideas, and concepts to bank employees and bank customers. Further, the individual should be able to interact effectively across all levels of the organization, including senior management and other departments. The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and solve problems is also necessary.
The physical demands of the role require the individual to regularly talk or hear, frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
