Tyro Payments Appoints Nigel Lee as New CEO

Nigel Lee brings to the table a vast reservoir of knowledge and experience in the payments sector. His expertise spans across various facets of the industry, including issuing, acquiring, software, and hardware solutions. Lee’s professional journey has seen him work with numerous prestigious companies, including Ingenico, American Express, First Data Corporation, MoneyGram, and DataMesh Group. This diverse experience situates him uniquely to navigate the complexities of the payments ecosystem.

Former Roles and Contributions

Most recently, Lee held the dual role of Regional Managing Director Asia Pacific and Chief Customer Officer at Ingenico, a global leader in seamless payments. In this capacity, Lee worked closely with Tyro Payments, thereby gaining a deep understanding of the company. His tenure at Ingenico lasted for four years.

Prior to this, he served as an Operating Partner at APIS Partners, a private equity asset management company, where he specialized in fintech portfolio companies across Asia and Africa. During his time at APIS Partners, Lee made significant investments in several payments businesses, thereby bolstering his industry footprint.

Leadership and Advisory Roles

Lee’s professional repertoire extends beyond operational roles. He is an esteemed member of the executive steering committee for CapGemini’s World Payments Report, a respected global source of information on payment trends. Furthermore, he is an Advisory Board member of the Emerging Payments Association Asia, a progressive trade association for the payments industry.

Anticipated Contributions at Tyro

Tyro Payments Chair, Fiona Pak Poy, expressed her optimism about Lee’s appointment. She stated, “He knows the Australian market well given the global reach of his experience and Asia Pacific leadership roles.” Poy’s confidence is a testament to Lee’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the global payments landscape.

Jon Davey announced his resignation as Tyro CEO in June, having served in the role for three years.
