Major Duties

The core duties at Northern Trust encompass a wide spectrum of activities. The institution continually seeks to develop new relationships and identify prospects, thereby formulating an effective marketing strategy for specific clients.

One of the critical roles at Northern Trust involves managing complex wealth management banking credit and treasury management client relationships. The institution takes it a step further by identifying opportunities external to banking in the areas of investment and fiduciary.

Another significant responsibility involves structuring and negotiating complex loan and/or lease agreements according to guidelines established by senior bank and business unit management. This includes analyzing and negotiating the terms of loans, such as special pricing conditions, interest rates, Swaps, etc., according to guidelines set by the Credit Policy Committee. The institution also oversees and negotiates the preparation of necessary documentation for the financing agreement.

Advising and consulting with clients as it relates to Goals Driven Wealth Management is another crucial part of the role. Generating leads through well-established relationships with Centers of Influence (COI’s) and cultivating a network of additional COI’s is also a key duty.

Northern Trust partners are often required to provide comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to teams and partners at a high technical level. They are also tasked with managing activities that are large in scope, cross-functional, and technically difficult.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

To excel at Northern Trust, advanced knowledge of the banking industry, competition, and financing, usually acquired through formal education and experience is required. Knowledge of investments, trust and financial consulting concepts is necessary to identify cross-selling opportunities.

Skills in negotiation, leadership, and sales are essential for developing client and prospect relationships and a partner network. Excellent oral and written communication skills, flexibility, adaptability to change, and the ability to interpret internal/external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services are also valued.

At least 5 years in financial analysis and client servicing experience, or commercial lending or leasing experience is required. The role may also lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.

Remuneration

Salaries at Northern Trust are competitive, with a range of $158,010 – $268,640 USD. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts, and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
