Working at Northern Trust

At Northern Trust, employees operate under general supervision but are encouraged to work independently most of the time. Their responsibilities include handling and processing of routine transactions such as transactions processing, document processing, investor services, opening new business, and maintaining and reviewing documentation on existing accounts.

Major Duties at Northern Trust

Employees at Northern Trust are tasked with a variety of responsibilities. These include supporting tax documentation, withholding, and reporting activities by reviewing data, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring information is complete and accurate in accordance with established procedures. They also assist with tax-related reconciliations, reporting support, and documentation preparation, including audit and regulatory support activities.

Northern Trust employees perform operational support related to retirement and account tax maintenance, escalating issues and exceptions as appropriate. They review IRS correspondence, notices, and system discrepancies, assisting with research and resolution in partnership with internal teams. Furthermore, they support general ledger and reconciliation activities by reviewing transactions and identifying variances for follow-up.

Knowledge and Experience

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required for a role at Northern Trust, in addition to a thorough understanding of banking procedures and regulations. Analytical and problem-solving skills are also essential. An understanding of risk mitigation and management practices is preferred, along with the ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.

A College or University degree and proven Banking Operations work experience is preferred for a role at Northern Trust, as is a related Industry qualification such as ACCA.
