The Opportunity at USAA

The opportunity at hand is a role that forms part of the First Line of Defense (FLOD) governance team. The team supports the RIAP program which covers operational, strategic, and reputational risks. Ideal candidates for this position should have a strong understanding of RCSA principles and a broad grasp of risk management, even without being a credit risk expert.

USAA offers a flexible work environment that requires the individual to be in the office four days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA, or Tampa, FL. However, it’s important to note that relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Job Role and Responsibilities

  • Managing solutions for stronger controls and supporting risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives. This may include oversight of procedures/processes, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessment, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, Company or Staff Agency Third Party Governance, or quality governance.
  • Performing ongoing supervision and oversight of business controls and imparting knowledge to team members to evaluate the effectiveness of established business controls.
  • Responsible for risk data analysis, report preparation, and trend analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to improve and strengthen the control environment through actionable insights.
  • Translating control deficiencies into action plans and providing recommendations to enhance governance practices in alignment with Risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Partnering with stakeholders to drive improvement efforts to correct or prevent unfavorable trends and assess the impacts.
  • Leading the project team through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases for effective and timely Risk remediation.
  • Advising senior management on the status of their control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses.
  • Developing and maintaining processes, procedures, and tools for managing exception alerts as they occur, including monitoring resulting exception cases.
  • Providing control oversight to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Serving as a primary resource to team members.
  • Ensuring risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.​

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role should have a Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related experience. They should have a minimum of 6 years’ experience supporting risk-related, compliance-related, or business control design activities. Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance to the area supported is necessary.

What sets you apart for this role includes the ability to execute deliverables in a fast-paced risk management environment, experience supporting a financial institution risk program governance function, and a strong understanding of Lines of Defense roles. You should also have proven capability to analyze complex risk issues and contribute to the development of effective solutions, advanced proficiency in creating clear presentations for stakeholders, and working knowledge of OCC guidelines and regulatory expectations.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $103,450.00 and $197,730.00. The actual salary may vary based on your experience and market data of the position.
